KTR wants administration closer to citizens, to open 150 GHMC ward offices on June 16.

Hyderabad: In an effort to enhance citizen participation and address grievances effectively, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao announced the inauguration of 150 ward offices on June 16. The initiative aims to bring administration closer to the people and promote good governance.

The minister said, “Each of the ward offices will have 10 staff members from various departments led by the ward administrative officer (WAO). An assistant municipal commissioner rank officer will be the WAO. People can lodge their civic grievances at these offices. This pioneering initiative will take administration closer to people.”

During an interactive session with ward-level officers of the GHMC on Saturday, KTR emphasised the significance of engaging with citizens through various platforms, including in-person interactions and social media channels. He urged the staff members to meticulously record every suggestion and request made by citizens, ensuring no concern goes unnoticed.

Detailing the main functions of ward offices and the job responsibilities of each of the staff members, the IT minister said, “One of the objectives of the offices is to ensure proper maintenance of all civic infrastructure provided under all ongoing schemes, development projects in the ward.”

He further said, “Citizens Charter which will detail the time to redress a grievance will be released soon, and it will be displayed at the offices.”

KTR expressed confidence in the success of this initiative and envisioned other cities adopting this model in the future. He said, “The introduction of the ward office system sets Hyderabad apart as a trailblazer, as no other metro in the country has implemented a similar approach.”

The inauguration of these ward offices marks the celebration of Telangana Good Governance Day, commemorating the decennial anniversary of the formation of Telangana State. These offices will provide a dedicated space for citizens to lodge their civic grievances and seek redressal promptly.
