Hyderabad: Five days after 10-year-old Sahasra was brutally murdered in Kukatpally, police have arrested a 14-year-old neighbor, revealing that the minor carried out the attack during an attempted theft.

Accused confesses to stabbing victim

During prolonged questioning, the boy admitted to stabbing Sahasra 21 times, describing the act as “just like an accident.” Investigators initially suspected theft of money, but the accused said he had gone to steal a cricket bat, referred to by him as an “MRF bat.” He fled without taking the bat or any cash.

Evidence suggests pre-meditation

Police recovered a note from the boy’s home detailing a plan to cause a gas leak and steal money, ending with the words “mission don (done).” Though the gas plot was not executed, authorities believe the note points to premeditation.

Notebooks seized from his home indicate he frequently watched crime films. The family originally hails from Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.

Killing occurred during burglary attempt

Investigators said that on August 18, the boy climbed from his building to the victim’s adjacent house and entered alone. Sahasra confronted him while he attempted to steal the bat, leading him to stab her with a small knife. The postmortem revealed 14 stab wounds on her neck and seven on her stomach.

Victim and accused were known to each other

The boy had attended Sahasra’s birthday party in the past, and police verified photographs showing him offering her cake. Over the five days following the murder, he remained confined at home, monitoring social media updates on the case.

Police also visited his school as part of the investigation. Full case details are expected to be released to the media on Saturday.

Family background of victim

Sahasra’s father Krishna works as a bike mechanic, her mother Renuka is a lab technician, and her brother attends school. On the day of the incident, the family left home around 9:30 am. Krishna discovered the tragedy at noon after being informed that Sahasra had not delivered his son’s lunchbox.
