Hyderabad: Even as a court case remains pending, nearly 353 acres of government land at Bahadurpally village in Gandimaisamma mandal of Medchal–Malkajgiri district is being blatantly built upon.
It has been alleged that a company and a housing society are allegedly raising houses and even a function hall on the disputed property.
The hall is reportedly earning up to Rs 70,000 per programme, raising serious questions over enforcement on litigation-bound lands.
Land declared as government property
The land in Survey No. 227 was earlier declared government property by the Joint Collector, and following a High Court-ordered resurvey, the official again submitted last month that the land belongs to the government.
Despite this, constructions have continued unchecked. The complainant has urged HYDRAA to immediately halt further structures until the court delivers its final verdict and to protect the land from permanent encroachment.
This was among the 47 complaints received at HYDRAA Prajavani grievance redressal programme, reflecting the alarming scale of encroachments across the Hyderabad region.
Encroachment syndicates target litigated and government lands
Several petitioners alleged that powerful individuals are deliberately identifying government and litigation-bound properties, allowing cases to drag on for years and then quietly occupying the land. Parks, stormwater nalas, lakes and even public roads are reportedly being encroached upon without restraint.
Drainage outlet blocked in Nagaram, flooding hits colonies
Residents of West Gandhi Nagar and surrounding colonies in Nagaram Municipality under Keesara mandal complained that natural drainage to Komati Kunta lake has been blocked after a 4,000-square-yard plot owner allegedly filled the canal.
As a result, sewage and rainwater now stagnate in residential areas during the monsoon. The residents demanded immediate restoration of the canal to prevent recurring flooding.
Eight shops built on government land in Saroornagar
In Sri Ramana Colony of Saroornagar mandal (Survey No. 60), locals alleged that eight commercial shops were illegally constructed on government land and are being operated openly.
Despite repeated representations to various departments, they said no action has been taken so far. The residents demanded the recovery of nearly 700 square yards of government land, including about 200 square yards adjacent to a government school, for public use.
Pocharam residents flag encroachments on public utility sites
Residents of Akashela Nagar Colony in Pocharam Municipality alleged that lands meant for parks, roads, a police station and a post office are being systematically encroached upon.
They claimed that a 50-foot-wide road has been reduced by nearly 15 feet due to illegal constructions, severely affecting traffic and access for emergency services.
HYDRAA assures action on all complaints
Many complainants warned that lakes, nalas and road margins are now being targeted as prime real estate. While the absence of Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) approvals has stalled legal ownership in some cases, residents fear that open government spaces will vanish unless enforcement is tightened.
HYDRAA officials assured that all 47 complaints will be thoroughly verified and strict action will follow wherever violations are confirmed.
HYDRAA Additional Director S Varla Papaiah reviewed the petitions and directed the concerned departments to carry out inspections and take time-bound action.
