Legal action against e-commerce, courier services participating in drug trade: Hyderabad CP Sajjanar

Hyderabad: Alarmed by reports that ganja, narcotics and other prohibited items are being moved through e-commerce and courier networks, City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, on Wednesday ordered all service providers to strengthen surveillance systems and promptly inform the police about any suspicious consignments.

He warned that stringent legal action would be taken against any service provider found aiding or abetting illegal or anti-social activities in violation of established norms.

The Commissioner was addressing a coordination meeting with nodal officers of various service providers at the old Police Commissioner’s Office, Basheerbagh, as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement and public safety in Hyderabad.

Coordination meeting with service providers

The meeting was attended by representatives from telecom companies, internet service providers, food delivery platforms, courier services, transport operators and other service sectors.

The discussions focused on enhancing coordination between the police and private service providers to prevent misuse of services for criminal activities.

Call for cooperation in investigations

CP Sajjanar urged service providers to extend full cooperation during criminal investigations.

He advised companies to establish dedicated internal units to ensure prompt response whenever information is sought by the police. He emphasised that service providers must balance business interests with social responsibility.

Concerns over driver misconduct towards women

The Commissioner noted complaints against certain cab and bike taxi drivers for misbehaviour, particularly towards women passengers.

He said such incidents were being treated seriously and instructed companies to maintain continuous oversight of their drivers and take strict action against erring personnel.

Unjustified ride cancellations highlighted

He also drew attention to frequent public complaints regarding drivers cancelling rides after passengers disclose destinations or complete payments.

Such actions, he said, cause significant inconvenience to commuters. Service providers were directed to enforce accountability and discipline among drivers.
