Hyderabad: Forest officials trapped the leopard two days after it was spotted in the premesis of International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in Hyderabad.

The big cat was trapped on Wednesday night.

According to the Forest Department officials, the big cat is a healthy male around five to six years old.

Forest officials had installed CCTV cameras and set up cages in multiple areas within the ICRISAT premises after the leopard was sighted on camera two days ago.

According to Medak District Forest Officer Sridhar Rao, two cages were strategically placed in locations where the animal was known to roam. The leopard was successfully captured in one of the cages. The animal is now being transported to Nehru Zoo Park for medical examination.

Reports suggest that this is not the first time leopards have been rescued from the ICRISAT camps. Twice in 2014 and 2019, the big cats were reported roaming in the campus, and were caught by the forest department.
