Liquor shops shut, No DJs: Celebrate Holi responsibly or face action, warns Hyderabad CP Sajjanar

Hyderabad: Ahead of Holi celebrations, Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, on Monday urged citizens to celebrate the festival peacefully and responsibly, warning that strict action will be taken against anyone causing inconvenience or disturbing public order in the city.

Reviewing security arrangements during a video conference and meeting held at TGICCC, Banjara Hills, the Commissioner directed officers to intensify vigilance and ensure visible policing across Hyderabad to prevent any untoward incidents.

‘Applying colours to unwilling persons will not be tolerated’

The Commissioner instructed that Blue Colts and patrolling teams remain on high alert throughout the city. He emphasised that forcibly applying colours to unwilling persons will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Throwing colours on pedestrians, vehicles, or in public places will attract action, he warned. He also cautioned that groups of youths creating a nuisance on roads will face vehicle seizure and legal action.

SHE Teams will be deployed extensively to prevent harassment and indecent behaviour towards women during the celebrations.

No DJs; use natural colours

Stating that there is no permission for DJs during Holi celebrations, the Commissioner advised citizens to use only natural colours and avoid chemical-based substances that may cause harm.

He made it clear that violations of the guidelines will invite cases under the City Police Act.

Special measures in view of Ramadan

With the holy month of Ramadan underway, Sajjanar directed officers to ensure that Holi festivities do not disturb Muslim prayers.

Police have been instructed to coordinate with Peace Committees and strengthen security arrangements in sensitive areas to maintain communal harmony.

Liquor shops to remain closed

As part of precautionary measures, liquor shops, toddy compounds, bars and restaurants within Hyderabad Commissionerate limits will remain closed from 6 am to 6 pm on Tuesday (March 3).

Appeal to citizens

The Commissioner appealed to the public to cooperate with the police and celebrate Holi in a harmonious and joyful manner. Citizens have been advised to immediately contact Dial 100 in case of any law-and-order issues.
