Response team reached the scene in 3 minutes
The HYDRAA control room immediately received the alert (at 11:01 am) and immediately relayed the information to DRF teams stationed nearby.
The first response team reached the spot by 11:04 am and began firefighting operations using fire extinguishers, successfully containing the flames before they could spread further.
50 people rescued using rope ladders
Simultaneously, rescue operations to save those trapped in the building were launched as heavy smoke blocked access to the staircase. With several people stranded on the second floor, DRF personnel deployed rope ladders to safely evacuate them.
Two additional HYDRAA DRF teams soon joined the operation. Fire and police departments also reached the scene and assisted in coordinated rescue and safety measures. Thanks to the rapid response, no casualties or injuries were reported.
Officials noted that even a slight delay in controlling the fire could have led to a major tragedy.
High-risk Maitrivanam has hundreds of training centres
Ameerpet is a densely populated commercial hub known for IT training institutes and coaching centres. Buildings like Aditya Enclave and Maitrivanam house hundreds of training centres, with dozens operating on each floor.
Thousands of students and job aspirants frequent the area daily, making it highly vulnerable in the event of a fire.
News of the blaze triggered concern across the city, but the quick intervention by HYDRAA DRF brought relief to authorities and the public alike.
HYDRAA Commissioner inspects site
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath visited the spot and reviewed the situation on the ground. He examined the cause of the fire and appreciated the prompt response of the DRF teams, which helped avert a major disaster.
HYDRAA Additional Director Varla Papayya and ADFO Mohan Rao were also present at the site and briefed officials about the rescue efforts and preliminary findings.
One-month deadline given to rectify safety issues in buildings
The Commissioner stressed that recurring fire incidents should serve as a wake-up call for commercial establishments.
He recalled that HYDRAA had conducted joint inspections a month ago along with Fire, GHMC, Electricity and Police departments, and had even sealed certain shops for non-compliance with fire safety norms.
A one-month deadline had been given to rectify deficiencies.
Fresh inspections to be conducted soon
In light of recent incidents, he stated that amendments to fire safety regulations may be proposed to the government in coordination with concerned departments. A fresh round of inspections will be conducted after a month.
He also urged building owners and the public to strictly adhere to fire safety norms and ensure that emergency exits remain unobstructed to facilitate safe evacuation during emergencies.
