Hyderabad: The Chanderghat police have filed a case under section 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC against the speeding car that hit Liaqat Ali Khan aka Zahed on 12 July.

Investigating officer V. Shreeshailam Yadav said the police are checking CCTV footage to check the vehicle's number plate. However, due to rain and poor light, they have been unable to identify the car number.

The cops have only registered a case against the speeding car and not the GHMC.

"A case has not been registered against the GHMC or anyone else. As per the complaint received from Zahid's family, we have a complaint only against the speeding car that hit him," the officer added.

The good deed that killed Zahed

A big pit had been dug in the middle of the road and it had been open for over a month. Several pedestrians had been injured after falling into it.

On Tuesday evening, Zahed, who worked at Sohail Hotel in Malakpet, had enough of the menace. He decided to do something to save lives. He pulled a nearby 'no-parking' barricade and placed it in front of the hole. While he was doing what he could for the safety of the public, a speeding car hit him.

Zahed died on the spot. He was rushed to Osmania General Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. He is survived by his wife and two children.

"While several locals took up the issue of the big pit with GHMC, no action has been taken. I have complained to the GHMC five times in the last month," said Amjed Ullah Khan, the spokesman of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT).

Mr. Amjed said he has also reached out to the traffic police and the Chanderghat police. "No action was taken by anyone," he added.

Locals said the GHMC dug up the hole on the pretext of some ongoing electricity work. However, Mr. Amjed said the hole has been dug as a trail pit for the construction of ROB from Sohail Hotel to Chandrayangutta via Saidabad, Santoshnagar, Hafez Baba Nagar, etc.
