Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Customs has registered a case against a passenger for smuggling 320 gms of gold worth Rs. 15.75 lakh concealed inside deodorant bottles and toy cars. This is the fourth gold smuggling case in a week.
The passenger arrived from Dubai on an Air India flight. Customs officials detected the gold while checking the checked-in baggage at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Thursday.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Customs department had registered a case against a passenger for smuggling 233.4 gms of gold worth Rs. 11.56 lakh. The passenger who arrived from Sharjah had concealed gold in two wristwatches.
On Monday, Customs officials seized gold, foreign currency, and iPhones worth Rs. 29 lakh from three passengers at RGIA.
The officials seized UAE currency and US dollar valued at Rs. 11.49 lakh from two Sudanese women passengers. The women were going to Khartoum via Sharjah by Air Arabia flight.
The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department detained another passenger who attempted to smuggle 350 gms of gold worth Rs. 17.69 lakh. Cases were registered and an investigation is underway.
In another incident, the Customs officials seized nine iPhone 13 Pro worth Rs. 8.37 lakh from a passenger who had concealed them in the hand baggage.
