Hyderabad: A local court here sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for the kidnap and rape of a minor girl in 2015.

On 14 June 2015, the Kandukur police received a complaint from the victim's father. The man and his family lived in a poultry farm in Bouramept village. The accused, G. Gangadhar (20), from Ananthapuram district in Andhra Pradesh, also worked at the poultry farm.

The girl's father said Gangadhar took advantage of his 14-year-old daughter and eloped with her. He took her to Ananthapuram where he tied a yellow thread around her neck and convinced her that they were married. He then raped her several times. A case was registered at Kandukur police station after the accused left the girl at Kandukur and fled.

During the course of the investigation, M. Mallikarjun, the SIP of Kandukur police station, collected evidence, arrested the accused and remanded him to judicial custody. On completion of the investigation, the Kandukur police filed a charge sheet in the court.

During the trial held on 10 August, the court convicted Gangadhar to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 against him.
