Manholes overflow in Hyderabad: Emergency teams on alert over continuous rains

Hyderabad: In view of the continuous rains in Hyderabad, Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) have been put on high alert.

Water Board MD Ashok Reddy and ED Mayank Mittal have instructed officials to implement precautionary measures to prevent public inconvenience and ensure swift response to emergencies.

Special drive for two days

The MD directed that for the next two days, a special drive be conducted daily from 6 am to 9 am to monitor floodwater removal and sewer clearance.

He asked DGMs to personally inspect sewer jetting machines in inundated areas and ensure immediate redressal of complaints regarding sewage overflow from manholes and household chokes.

Strict testing of drinking water quality

Officials have also been told to visit critical points, such as deep manholes and areas with sewage overflow, to take corrective steps.

Reddy emphasised strict testing of drinking water quality during supply hours and directed officials to prevent any contamination, with special attention to slum and low-lying areas.

Protective equipment must for all field staff

ED Mayank Mittal instructed that all field staff be equipped with protective gear, including helmets, gloves and gumboots. He further suggested distributing chlorine tablets in flood-hit areas in coordination with the Quality Wing GM and other officials.

The Water Board has also stressed the need for close coordination with HYDRAA, GHMC and police officials. Citizens have been urged not to open manhole covers under any circumstances.

For assistance, residents can contact the Water Board’s customer care helpline at 155313.
