Hyderabad: Peg marking of the alignment of the Airport metro has begun from Raidurg to the Biodiversity junction in the city. The survey for 31 kilometers of metro rail has been completed.
What is peg marking?
Peg marking is the alignment on the ground. The traditional engineering peg marks on the roads and aluminum boards with retro-reflective sheets for night visibility are embedded in the central median. This will indicate the distance of that particular point to the starting point.
Boards placed at junctions
Small boards are placed every 100 meters from Raidurg to Biodiversity junction for road travellers. There are also boards from IT towers on Khajaguda road to Nanakramguda junction. This is being done to create awareness so that the road travellers are alert, and the team will carry out the engineering work accordingly.
Metro pillars in central median
The airport express metro pillars will be in the central median of the expanded service road between Nanakramguda junction and Telangana State Police Academy junction along the outer Ring Road.
Managing director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, N V S Reddy, says, āTransferring the alignment onto the ground by peg marking will facilitate preliminary works such as marking of Airport metro pier (pillar) locations on the ground and taking up soil testing for determining the soil bearing capacity, designing of piers and other works.ā
Hyderabad Airport Metro Express will be connected to the L And T Metro Rail at Raidurg, which will make it easy for commuters to use the metro rail for the airport. There will be 10 stations from Raidurg to RGIA.
The metro express will provide a crucial link from Airport to Adibatla and the proposed Pharma City. The travelling time from Mindspace junction to Hyderabad airport will be 26 minutes.
