Hyderabad: In a major blow to the narcotics trade, Mira Bhayandar–Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police from Thane district have unearthed a large-scale methylenedioxy (MD) drug manufacturing unit in Telangana, seizing nearly 32,000 litres of raw material valued at about Rs 12,000 crore in the global market.
Officials describe the action as one of the biggest anti-drug operations mounted by the force.
Probe triggered by small seizure
The trail began with the recovery of just 200 grams of MD drugs worth Rs 25 lakh. Persistent investigation and surveillance gradually exposed the extensive supply network and pointed officers towards a clandestine facility operating in Telangana.
Sophisticated Manufacturing Network
Police say the syndicate was running an industrial-scale operation, using advanced equipment and specialised chemicals to produce MD drugs. The elaborate supply and distribution chain was designed to mask the origin of the narcotics, making detection challenging.
Arrests and Global links under lens
So far, 13 accused have been arrested. Investigators suspect the network has connections across multiple Indian states and overseas. Samples and chemicals seized from the site are being examined while authorities coordinate with national agencies to trace financial and logistical links.
Major breakthrough in Anti-Drug Drive
MBVV Police had earlier drawn attention with a 22-crore cocaine haul involving two foreign nationals. The Rs 12,000-crore seizure, however, dwarfs previous operations and is expected to significantly disrupt drug trafficking channels.
