Hyderabad: Over 14 years, two friends collected over 370 magnets from 40 nations. They then hung all the magnets on a wall and discovered a larger story. That’s when it occurred to them that this should be in the hands of the people who want to see the world.

Meet the duo—Dr. Anthony Vipin Das, an eye surgeon, and Vidushi Duggal, a writer and content creator—from Hyderabad have embarked on an unusual trip.

The two created a one-of-a-kind book titled “Around the World in Magnets” based on their travels and the magnets they collected in each location. On 18 March, the book was formally launched at a reception held in a major hotel in Banjara Hills.

“We are delighted to present you this book, which is now in your hands so that you can appreciate and explore the locations we visited as much as we did, as well as celebrate the cultures of the world,” said Vidushi Duggal, the book’s co-author.

The book, which is currently available on Amazon, is a collection of travel magnets from around the world and a portal to experiencing the world in a new way. At the book’s official launch, the writers said, “We aim to establish a community around the book and stimulate stimulating dialogues.”

History, magnet, and memory

The book discusses travel magnets and why they are so significant. Magnets are popular collectibles, and many travellers carry these small pieces home from their adventures. The book contains a compilation of some of the world’s most unusual magnets.

The book also includes personal accounts of the location, its history, and the author’s fond memories of it. It also provides information about the various sites within and around a site that can be visited and explored. It also takes a look at some of the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

“It is the first installment of the magnet and memory collection. And it is the first step towards an unprecedented travel revolution. After reading the book, you will be eager to travel to every part of the globe. “Around the World in Magnets” is the entryway to discovering the world in a completely new and unique way,” said Dr. Anthony Vipin Das.

“We looked at the size of the wall and realised it had a lot of history, culture, and art. At a single glance, you are transported to a new country and place. They aren’t simply small magnet pieces; they also have a lot of emotion tied to them. It is a new method of discovering and experiencing the world,” he added.

They noted in the book’s foreword, “We present a new and uncommon method to see this amazing globe. We brought back a small piece of the area we visited in the form of a magnet from our travels.”

The authors add in the foreword, “Each magnet has an interesting narrative attached to it and offers considerable insight into the place we visited. This is not the end of the story. Our journey continues. We will continue to explore more countries in the coming years. We intend to expand our collection and start a travel movement unlike any other.”

Dr. Vipin is an explorer at heart, despite being a busy eye surgeon at LV Prasad Eye Center and a TED senior fellow. He is passionate about learning about other cultures around the world. He is working his way through the world’s huge list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, one by one.
