Hyderabad: The annual Milad-un-Nabi procession in Hyderabad has been postponed to September 14 this year, as it coincides with the ongoing Ganesh festivities.

The decision was announced by the Markazi Milad Juloos Committee, which organises the event every year.

Milad-un-Nabi, celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, falls on September 5, while the 11-day Ganesh festival concludes with the grand immersion processions on September 6.

High-level meeting with CM Revanth Reddy

A delegation comprising AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Telangana Assembly leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and Milad Juloos Committee members met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday.

They requested the illumination of historic mosques and dargahs and sought free electricity supply for the Milad celebrations. Additionally, the committee asked for permission to conduct processions across the State on the rescheduled date.

Second consecutive year of overlap

This is the second year in a row that Milad celebrations overlap with Ganesh festivities.

Last year, following a similar request by the committee, the Chief Minister had also asked to postpone the procession to avoid clashes.

Year-long celebrations of Prophet’s 1,500th birth anniversary

The Milad Committee has also sought government permission to organise year-long celebrations of the Prophet’s 1,500th birthday in 2025, which the Chief Minister assured would be permitted as per official rules.
