Misleading Claims: Homeopathy medicines seized for false advertising
Drugs manufactured in an unlicensed manner may pose serious implications for public health
By Anoushka Caroline Williams Published on 4 April 2024 11:16 AM GMTHyderabad: In a significant crackdown on illegal drug operations, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana uncovered unauthorized manufacturing activities at Ovoid Pharmachem Pvt. Ltd., situated in Jeedimetla.
Officials seized stocks worth Rs. 23.93 lakhs during the raid on 3rd and 4th April.
M. Vijay Gopal, Assistant Director, emphasized the severity of manufacturing drugs without proper licenses, stating, "Drugs manufactured in an unlicensed manner may pose serious implications for public health."
Raids on Clinics of Unqualified Practitioners
In separate events, the DCA conducted raids on clinics operated by unqualified practitioners, commonly known as quacks, in Warangal District and Adilabad.
Substantial quantities of illegally stocked medicines were seized from these premises.
G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal, highlighted the dangers of indiscriminate sale of antibiotics and steroids by unqualified individuals, stating, "Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics may have disastrous consequences on the health of rural public."
Seizure of Misleading Homeopathic Medicine
In another operation, the DCA seized 'FEVO GO Syrup,' a homeopathic medicine, for circulating misleading claims regarding its efficacy in treating various fevers and typhoid.
G. Prasad, Assistant Director, Khammam, stressed the legal ramifications of misleading advertisements, stating, "Persons who make misleading advertisements regarding drugs are punishable under Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954."
Call for Public Vigilance
The Director General, V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, IPS, urged the public to report any illegal activities concerning medicines to the DCA through their toll-free number, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance in curbing illegal drug operations.
