Hyderabad: The Telangana Transport Department has booked cases against 219 private travel buses during special enforcement drives conducted from January 7 to date, officials said on Monday.
Violations include absent first-aid boxes and illegal goods transport
According to an official statement, the cases were registered for multiple violations, including illegal carriage of goods, absence of passenger lists and failure to carry mandatory first-aid boxes. The department said such lapses pose serious risks to passenger safety, especially during the festive travel rush.
Statewide enforcement, special teams in Hyderabad
The Transport Department said it has already issued instructions to enforcement officers across all districts to intensify checks. In Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts alone, eight special inspection teams have been deployed to monitor private travel buses.
Warning on overcharging during festive rush
With Sankranti travel picking up, the department warned private bus operators against collecting excess fares. It also cautioned that private travel buses should not be operated as stage carriages under any circumstances, and violations would invite strict action.
Guidelines for sleeper buses soon
The department further announced that guidelines for the operation of sleeper buses would be issued shortly.
Sleeper buses registered in other states but operating in Telangana will be thoroughly inspected, and strict action will be taken against vehicles found to have registrations or operations in violation of rules.
Officials reiterated that the special drives would continue to ensure passenger safety and prevent exploitation during the festive season.
