Missing Hyderabad techie who was jailed in Pakistan returns home after 4 years
Prashanth's father Baburao said he has not met his son yet but said this is the happiest moment in his life as his son has returned home safe.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 2 Jun 2021 1:09 AM GMTHyderabad: Hyderabad techie who went missing in 2017 and had been lodged in a Pakistan jail after crossing the border illegally was handed over to the Indian authorities on Monday who in turn handed him over to the Madhapur police on Tuesday.
Prashanth went missing on 11 April 2017. His family lodged a missing complaint at the Madhapur police station on 29 April 2017 and a case was registered. The police tried to track him down but in vain. Later, the techie's family received a message that Prashanth was detained in Pakistan. The family immediately contacted the Cyberabad police and the state and Central governments. On 31 May 2021, Prashanth was handed over to the Indian authorities who in turn handed him over to P. Ravindra Prasad, the inspector of police, Madhapur police station, at Attari in Punjab.
Speaking to NewsMeter from Vizag, Prashanth's father Baburao said he has not met his son yet but said this is the happiest moment in his life as his son has returned home safe. "He is leaving from Hyderabad tomorrow morning (Wednesday) and will reach home by evening. I got a chance to speak to him for a minute. I don't have much information about how he was treated in Pakistan but we are going to meet him after years. That is what I am looking forward to," said Baburao.
Prashanth's family thanked the Telangana and Central governments, the ministry of external affairs, and the Home ministry for bringing Prashanth home.
Prashanth wanted to meet his girlfriend in Switzerland but since he did not have money for the journey he decided to walk to Switzerland. He left home on 11 April 2017 and boarded a train to Bikaner, Rajasthan. From there he went to the Indo-Pak border where he crossed illegally into Pakistan. He was apprehended by the Pakistan authorities and a case was booked against him for illegal entry. On the completion of his conviction period, Prashanth was released and handed over to the Indian authorities at Attari border.
