Hyderabad: The Miyapur police have seized 27.54 kg of gold and 15.65 kg of silver worth more than Rs 15 Crore during a vehicle check-up in the city.

This is part of the multiple seizures the police have made across the city in light of the election code coming into effect for the upcoming Telangana elections.

On Sunday night, the Miyapur police stopped a two-wheeler near Miyapur X Road carrying three persons: Chilumula Anirudh, Diva Shankar Dubey and Baliram Hakke Maruti.




Finding their behaviour suspicious, the police checked their vehicle and found that they were carrying gold and silver ornaments and didn’t have any papers such as bills to prove their ownership.




The police suspect that the valuables are from a jewellery shop in Basheerbagh but couldn’t confirm the same since there three didn’t have any documents related to them. The police registered a case and the investigation is on.

In another incident, the police seized Rs 14 lakh in cash while checking the vehicles on Monday. The police officials have seized lakhs worth of cash and gold every day in the city. Earlier, within 48 hours of the announcement of election dates, the police seized Rs 4 crore of unaccounted cash and gold world Rs 7.5 crore during vehicle checking.

In the backdrop of the ensuing elections, leaders are trying to entice people by giving them various gifts in different forms such as alcohol, gold and money. For this, they need to move large sums of money or valuables which are being stopped by the police officers who have increased the number of vehicles checking in the city.
