MMTS Phase-II progress: Final checks on Sanath Nagar-Ghatkesar route ahead of inauguration

Hyderabad: The upcoming inauguration of new MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) services over the Sanath Nagar-Ghatkesar route is poised to enhance suburban rail connectivity in the region. This initiative, part of MMTS Phase-II, is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi within a week.

Issuing directives for the event, chief electrical service engineer BM Meena, said, “To ensure grand success of the inaugural function, preparation of two additional 9-car EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) rakes using the existing EMU stock is underway.”

The instructions highlight the necessity of converting the existing 12-car EMU rakes to a 9-car configuration to create additional rakes required for the new services. The focus extends beyond mere functionality, as the directive outlines the importance of presenting EMU rakes with well-maintained exteriors and interiors.

Interiors and GPS signalling as per norms

Meena said, “Exterior painting should adhere to the original scheme, and interiors must be subject to touch-up works to ensure a clean and visually appealing travel experience for passengers. The involvement of LGDS has been recommended for exterior painting assistance if required.”

The directive further addressed the need for GPS coordinates incorporation in the Passenger Announcement Passenger Information System (PAPIS) equipment for all new stations along the Sanath Nagar-Ghatkesar route. This integration will facilitate automatic announcements and display of upcoming stations and Head Codes when selecting the train number through the Man-Machine Interface (MMI).

Apart from the aesthetic and technological considerations, the directive underscores the importance of compliance with scheduled inspections. Meena stated, “Proper functioning of all safety equipment and passenger amenities is crucial, ensuring a seamless and secure travel experience for commuters.”

New trials

In anticipation of the inauguration, the directive also calls for necessary trials over the SNF-MLY C Cabin-GT route specifically for the 9-car empty EMU rake operations. These trials are to be conducted in coordination with the Traffic, Engineering, TRSO, and S&T (Signal and Telecommunications) departments of the South Central (SC) division.

Summarising the urgency of the matter, Meena concluded, “This matter is to be treated as both important and urgent, signifying the gravity and strategic significance of enhancing suburban rail connectivity through the inauguration of the new MMTS services.”

Residents speak
