Mucherla will be the Fourth and Future City: Revanth Reddy
Health, Tourism, Sports, Skill and AI hubs to be developed on a big scale
By Mahesh Avadhutha Published on 31 July 2024 12:21 PM GMTHyderabad: Hyderabad and Secunderabad were the well-known twin cities in the country for a long time, which got an addition in the form of Cyberabad, the third city, thanks mainly to the IT boom. If the Congress government has its way, this elite list will have a new entrant in the form of Mucherla, which will be the fourth city.
Making an announcement to this effect in the Assembly today, CM A Revanth Reddy said that Mucherla will be the "Fourth and Future city" for Hyderabad.
For the unversed, Mucherla (in Ranga Reddy district) was the location finalized for Hyderabad Pharma City by the previous government in over 20,000 acres. This pet project conceptualised by former minister K T Rama Rao in 2018 was shelved by the Revanth Reddy administration after it assumed power, citing environmental concerns, legal issues and opposition from farmers.
When completed, the BRS government projected that Hyderabad Pharma City would be the worldās largest integrated cluster for pharmaceutical industries with a focus on research, development, and manufacturing. The centre also accorded National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) recognition to the facility located in Kandukur, Yacharam and Kadthal Mandals of Ranga Reddy district and about 25 km from ORR and 29 km from Hyderabad Airport.
Countering former minister K T Rama Rao's warning that the Congress government would face legal issues due to certain provisions included in land acquisition guidelines if it tried to alter the original project, Revanth Reddy said such instances occurred in the past. He cited the example of the Azamabad industrial area that was modified to a residential zone later.
