Hyderabad: Shiva Prasad (29), a cook working at Golf Edge Apartments, passed away on 15 September, a week after he was stabbed by a Swiggy delivery executive.
Shiva had been working as a cook at K.V.S Bhaskar's residence for the past eight months.
On 8 September, Sai Sri, Bhaskar's relative, ordered sweets on Swiggy around 3 p.m. The order was picked up by the Swiggy delivery person (Sheikh Ameer) from the shop in Banjara Hills. "However, he became confused and the order was delayed by two hours," Gachibowli SHO G. Suresh explained.
Meanwhile, Sai Sri called Ameer several times. "They had a heated argument due to a communication gap," the SHO said.
Another employee, Vicky, stepped in and directed the delivery person to the correct address.
Shiva Prasad was present at the flat to accept the order. "Vicky requested that Shiva make certain that the delivery person waits until he arrives at the flat. So, Shiva requested Ameer to wait. This sparked disagreements between the two, and they began fighting. Around 6 p.m. on 8 September, the delivery person attacked Shiva with a vegetable cutting knife," the Gachibowli police said.
Ameer did not want to wait, according to the police, but Shiva insisted that he wait.
According to the police, Shiva received injuries on his cheek, chin, and chest. During the argument, the delivery person—who fled the scene later—injured his right hand.
The Gachibowli police confirmed that the argument between Shiva and Ameer broke out due to late delivery and that there were no comments made based on religion or caste.
The police arrived at the scene and transported the injured Shiva to Continental Hospital. He was later transferred to Gandhi Hospital and then to NIMS Hospital for additional treatment. He died as a result of his injuries on 15 September while undergoing treatment. The police said the accused is absconding and will be apprehended as soon as possible.
