Hyderabad: An issue regarding wearing burqas during intermediate exams has sparked controversy at St Pious College in Ramnagar, Musheerabad.

While initially, the management appeared receptive to allowing girls in burqas to write exams, concerns were later raised when some students and parents claimed they were warned against wearing burqas, which are not allowed as per an alleged college rule.

Parents and students gathered at the college on Thursday to discuss the matter with the management, and initial discussions seemed positive. However, the latest communication from the college has left many bewildered and frustrated.

“We thought the issue was resolved yesterday. It’s disheartening to receive a warning on Friday, especially when we believed the management has understood our concerns,” a concerned parent who requested anonymity said.

Students affected by the situation also voiced their opinions. Shirley Dominic, a student said, “Wearing a burqa is a personal choice and doesn’t interfere with the exam process. We just want to focus on our exams without unnecessary disruptions.”

The college administration claims that there is a rule in place prohibiting the wearing of burqas during exams. Despite this, some parents argue that religious freedoms should be respected, and exceptions could be made.

St Pious College has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
