Musi River floods: HYDRAA Chief Ranganath reviews situation in Old City, alerts NDRF & GHMC
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner AV Ranganath said on Saturday that NDRF, SDRF, GHMC and police teams are on high alert, monitoring the Musi flood situation round-the-clock.
He noted that water levels could begin to recede by evening if rains subside, but assured that all agencies would remain fully prepared.
Field inspections in flooded areas
The Commissioner visited Chaderghat, Moosarambagh and the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), which were severely affected by floodwaters. At Chaderghat, he reviewed relief operations in residential colonies inundated by the overflowing Musi River.
Appeal to residents
Ranganath urged people living in low-lying and waterlogged localities to shift to safer zones immediately and cooperate with the administration. “Public safety is the top priority, and every effort is being made to ensure protection of lives,” he stressed.
Drone relief for stranded families
As part of rescue efforts, drones were deployed to deliver food and essentials to families trapped on rooftops in submerged areas, ensuring timely relief supply.
Flooding at MGBS
At MGBS, the Commissioner inspected the damage caused after a breach in the Musi River retaining wall allowed floodwaters into the premises. He recalled that swift midnight operations on Friday enabled the safe evacuation of hundreds of stranded passengers.
Praise for rescue teams
The Commissioner commended the coordinated efforts of the Hyderabad Disaster Response Force (DRF), police, RTC staff and GHMC workers, who evacuated passengers safely without casualties.
He directed DRF teams to remain on standby, especially during the Dasara holiday rush, to ensure smooth travel.
Situation under constant review
Reiterating that emergency teams remain vigilant, Ranganath said authorities were constantly reviewing the flood situation and taking necessary precautionary measures.
