Nalgonda: DCA seizes Minoxytop 10% over misleading claims about hair growth

Telangana: Drugs Control Administration in Nalgonda seized the stock of Minoxytop 10% (Minoxidil Topical solution USP 10% w/v) after receiving reports about misleading hair growth claims.

The drug was circulated in the market with a claim that it helps in the "growth of new hair". After analysis, the claim was found to be misleading.

On March 5, officials from the Drugs Control Administration in Nalgonda Zone conducted raids at Sairam Pharma and Surgicals in Nalgonda and seized the stock.

'Minoxytop 10%', is manufactured by Healing Pharma India Pvt. Ltd located in Gujarat.

The claim regarding the ‘growth of new hair’ is prohibited under 'Schedule J' of the Drugs Rules. The misleading claim states that the drug is useful in ‘hair regrowth and that it reactivates hair follicles to stimulate regrowth’.

"Schedule J of the Drugs Rules prohibits claims of drugs for the treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No drug shall claim on its label that it prevents or cures diseases/disorders indicated under Schedule J of the Drugs Rules," said K. Dass, Assistant Director of DCA Nalgonda who was part of the raids.

How to report?
