Hyderabad: Blood transfusion can be a life-saving procedure. But many times, it does not work out simply because of the non-availability of blood. Blood collected from donors is used for transfusion during surgeries, emergencies, and other treatments. This is why blood banks are important. They can store and preserve donated blood and provide it to the needy when required.

It was started in 1997 by N Chandrababu Naidu, the former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh in memory of actor and TDP founder NT Rama Rao. Their aim is to support the less privileged children of the society by providing quality education, safeguarding the health and safety of the public, providing safe blood to the needy and children from Thalassaemia, and reducing poverty and instances of injustice in society.

7) Rotary Challa blood bank: Relatively younger blood bank, the Rotary Challa blood bank, established five years ago, is equipped with a mobile van to aid the collection of blood at the donor's doorstep. The blood bank is equipped with component separation equipment so that each unit of blood donated can be used to the benefit of up to three patients. The bank is also equipped with an apheresis machine so that single donor platelets can be harvested.

8) Aaradhya blood bank: It is the youngest among the blood banks in the city, being established in 2022. It is located in KPHB Phase 4.

9)Aayush blood bank: Aayush blood bank is located in the Vivekananda Nagar in Kukatpally. It has established a firm foothold in the industry in a short period.

10) Red Cross blood bank: There are various branches of blood banks run by the Red Cross across Telangana. In Hyderabad, their branch is located in Vidyanagar. It was established in 2000.

Besides, most of the super specialty hospitals in the city like NIMS, Osmania, Care, Yashoda, Sunshine, and KIMS have their own blood banks.
