Negligent RTC driver kills two senior citizens in Bowenpally; HTP launches special drive
This comes after two senior citizens were mowed down by an RTC bus within the Bowenpally police station limits on 1 January.

This comes after two senior citizens were mowed down by an RTC bus within the Bowenpally police station limits on 1 January.
According to the Hyderabad traffic police, the reconstruction of the crime scene and the investigation into the road accident indisputably demonstrated the bus driver's gross negligence.
The special drive aims to reduce road accidents and other traffic violations such as excessive speeding, wrong-side driving, signal jumping, drunk driving, talking on the cell phone while driving, crossing the Stop line, obstruction of the free left, stopping on the carriageway, not stopping at bus bays, and using multi-toned horns, among other things
In 2022, 3,909 traffic challans were issued against RTC buses for traffic offenses such as signal jumping, overspeeding/dangerous driving, wrong side driving, unauthorised parking/obstructions, and so on.
Furthermore, 41 commuters were killed in road incidents involving RTC buses in 2022. Pedestrians were responsible for 21 of the 41 deaths. In 2022, RTC buses accounted for 13% of the total fatalities.
To raise road safety awareness, the Hyderabad traffic police visited RTC depots and held 82 awareness classes, during which 4,303 RTC staff were given extensive road safety knowledge and sensitised about traffic laws and rules. The Hyderabad traffic police also held multiple meetings with RTC senior officials to assess the ground-level situation and seek their quick attention to maintain road safety and traffic regulation in the city.
