New Rachakonda CP DS Chauhan to prioritise cyber security, road safety

By Newsmeter Network Published on 5 Jan 2023 12:48 PM GMTHyderabad: The Rachakonda commissioner of police, Devendra Singh Chauhan, said creating awareness on cyber security and improving road safety in the commissionerate are his top priorities.
Mr. Chauhan, an IPS officer of the 1997 batch, took charge as the Rachakonda CP on 1 January.
In 2022, the Rachakonda commissionerate saw a sharp rise in cyber crimes. The number of cyber crime cases reported increased by 66%. In 2022, 2,049 cases were reported. This figure was 1,360 in 2021.
The cyber crimes included 57 job or visa frauds, 56 social media frauds, and 43 phishing crimes.
"We would like to create awareness in the community regarding various cyber crimes to improve cyber safety and cyber security," Mr. Chauhan said.
He added, "We will also focus on holding seminars for students about cyberstalking so that they understand and can protect their privacy."
He also said that he will focus on identifying various crimes in the urbanised section of Rachakonda.
Road safety
The Rachakonda commissionerate saw a 19% increase in road accidents in 2022. A marginal rise of 0.16% was observed in fatal accidents while non-fatal accidents saw a higher rise, 25.14%. The number of deaths due to accidents decreased by 0.91% as per the annual report.
"There are several highways under the commissionerate and we want to reduce the accident rate on these highways as much as possible. We want the roads to be safe for both drivers and pedestrians," Mr. Chauhan explained.
Stating that women's safety is another top priority, he said SHE teams will be deployed everywhere.
Rachakonda police commissionerate covers an area of 5091.48 sq. km. It has a population of 42 lakhs (approx.). There are 43 police stations (Law & Order), two women's police stations, a cyber crime cell, and eight traffic police stations supported by a series of auxiliary police units.
"The commissionerate is a mix of urban and rural areas. This calls for a mixed policing method. We will focus on this in 2023," Mr. Chauhan said.
