Hyderabad: A newborn baby was found partially eaten by stray dogs on the premises of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Hanamkonda in Warangal district of Telangana, the Matwada police said.

The policemen manning a police outpost at the hospital found stray dogs eating the newborn at a secluded place in the hospital premises and chased away the canines, the police said. It was not clear whether the baby was alive or dead and how it came to be in that spot, the official said, adding that they were examining CCTV footage.

ā€œIt's been challenging to determine if the infant was a girl or a boy because the dogs had consumed the lower body, but the umbilical cord was still in place. We are investigating whether someone abandoned the newborn at the hospital. A case has been registered and further investigation is on,ā€ said Matwada circle inspector Tumma Gopi.

MGH superintendent Dr Murali stated that no patient in the hospital had not lost a baby. ā€œIt's possible that stray canines from the area brought the newborn here,ā€ he added.
