Man dragged by relatives in Nizamabad district hospital

Telangana: A video which went viral on social media showing a patient being dragged on the floor of the Nizamabad District Government General Hospital in Telangana is a misleading claim.

The incident, which occurred on the evening of March 31, went viral on the social media.

The video shows how the patient was brought to the hospital by his relatives, and with his inability to walk due to his illness, his relatives chose to drag him on the floor instead of using a stretcher to transport him to the doctor's room on the second floor.

Speaking to NewsMeter, Dr Prathima, Superintendent of Nizamabad District Government General Hospital, clarified, "The patient, who arrived at the hospital was under the influence of alcohol, and unable to control his movements. He was transferred to the waiting area by the hospital's staff provider in a wheelchair. Due to the patient's condition, his relatives found it difficult to assist him with using the washroom. However, the hospital staff intervened promptly upon noticing his condition and provided him with the necessary care."

Dr Pratima further said, "The person who was filming the incident soon ran away, and his intentions appeared to be clear. He deliberately recorded the video and waited for two weeks to release it so the CCTV footage would expire after ten days."

Minister Harish Rao asks for inquiry

Following the news of the incident that occurred in Nizamabad Government Hospital, Minister Harish Rao has taken action by directing the Director of Medical Education to conduct an inquiry and submit a report with the facts of the incident as soon as possible.

40-50 wheelchairs available

On the hospital services provided to the patient, Dr Prathima said, "Our hospital sees an average of 1300 IP patients daily, has an impressive collection of 40-50 wheelchairs and 50 stretchers, potentially making it the largest supply in any government hospital. The hospital has implemented a colour-coding system for its stretchers, designating them for specific purposes such as ICU use, casualty transport, and floor usage. In addition, there are approximately 10 stretchers available in the hospital's casualty area."
