Hyderabad: The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) conducted a talk on cyber security awareness at its head office in Hyderabad on Friday.

NMDC is observing National Cyber Security Awareness Month, which is observed every October by public and private companies working to improve the country's overall resilience.

Sumit Deb, the CMD of NMDC, and Amitava Mukherjee, director (finance), encouraged the development of a secure cyber infrastructure at NMDC, while Krishna Sastry P., partner at E&Y, delivered the keynote address.

Krishna Sastry P. discussed the global cost of cybercrime and next-generation attacks. He emphasised the importance of instilling cyber discipline in individuals, organisations, and nations. "As NMDC builds its digital infrastructure, cyber security will play a pivotal role going forward," he told NMDC officials.

The organisation has implemented a strong information security management and governance system. Employees at NMDC must be cyber vigilant and work to strengthen the company's and the country's "firewall," he said.

"Today, it is difficult to say whether we are masters or slaves of technology, but the fact is that technology is here to stay. With a behavioural change, users can take control of how they interact with technology. As NMDC's cyber warriors work tirelessly to protect us, we must also be responsible online," said Amitava Mukherjee.

Sumit Deb, appreciating the deliberations, added, "The government of India's vision of a Digital India is aimed at empowering people and organisations in the country. In keeping with this vision, NMDC is experimenting with digitisation and automation. It is our responsibility to protect our employees and stakeholders in the same way that they protect us by remaining vigilant, aware, and safe in the digital world."
