Hyderabad: In a week-long special enforcement drive, the Hyderabad Traffic Police booked as many as 1,940 cases against motorists found driving without a valid Driving Licence (DL) across the city.

The drive was conducted from March 1 to March 7 to curb unlicensed driving and enhance road safety.

Intensive checks across the city

During the special drive, traffic personnel conducted vehicle checks at multiple locations and verified driving licences of motorists. Those found driving without a valid DL were booked under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Officials stated that driving without a licence is a serious violation that poses a threat not only to the driver but also to other road users.

Serious legal and financial consequences

Police warned that untrained or unauthorized driving is one of the major causes of road accidents, often resulting in loss of life, injuries, and damage to property.

They further cautioned that if a person involved in a road accident is found to be driving without a valid licence, insurance companies may reject the claim.

In such cases, the driver or vehicle owner may have to bear the entire financial burden, including medical expenses, compensation to victims, and repair costs.

Advisory to motorists and parents

The Hyderabad Traffic Police advised all motorists to carry a valid driving licence while driving and strictly adhere to traffic rules. Parents and vehicle owners were urged not to allow minors or unlicensed persons to drive, as it could attract serious legal consequences.

Drive to Continue

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, IPS, said that such special drives will continue in the interest of public safety and road discipline. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with enforcement agencies and follow traffic regulations to ensure safer roads for all.
