No fuel shortage in Hyderabad; enough to last 60 days, says Sajjanar; public told to avoid panic buying

Hyderabad: Amid widespread rumours of a fuel shortage in the city, Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Wednesday assured the public that there is no scarcity of petrol or diesel and urged citizens not to panic.

Adequate fuel stocks for 60 days

The Commissioner clarified that Hyderabad currently has sufficient fuel reserves to last for nearly 60 days. He stressed that there is no need for panic buying or rushing to petrol pumps for full tank refills.

Sudden surge in demand due to panic

Sajjanar explained that the appearance of ‘No Stock’ boards at a few fuel stations was temporary and caused by a sudden spike in demand.

On March 22, fuel sales stood at 3,024 kilolitres, which sharply increased to 6,400 kilolitres on March 23—almost doubling due to panic-driven purchases.

Continuous monitoring and review

A high-level review meeting was conducted on Wednesday at TGCC, involving District Collector Harichandana, Additional CP Tapseer Iqbal, Joint CP Shwetha and Civil Supplies officials.

Authorities confirmed that they are in constant coordination with oil companies to ensure an uninterrupted fuel supply across the city.

Warning against hoarding fuel in bottles

The Commissioner warned that strict legal action will be taken against those selling petrol or diesel illegally in bottles or containers.

He also stated that police are closely monitoring social media platforms and will act firmly against individuals spreading false information and creating panic.

Situation under control across fuel stations

Officials said the situation is under control across the Commissionerate limits.

Around 240 fuel stations are being continuously monitored in coordination with the Civil Supplies and Revenue departments.

District Collector Harichandana added that fuel supply is running smoothly in 186 outlets across the district. A dedicated control room has also been set up to address public concerns.

Public urged to stay calm

Authorities reiterated that essential services will not be affected and urged citizens to remain calm, avoid unnecessary rush at fuel stations, and rely only on verified information.
