‘NO means NO’: Rachakonda CP to intense checks on eve-teasing

By Newsmeter Network Published on 9 Feb 2023 2:47 PM GMTHyderabad: The Rachakonda police on Thursday said they will intensify their special drives and decoy operations by plain-clothes police personnel to curb eve-teasers at educational institutions, bus stops, metros, markets, and other public spaces.
Rachakonda police commissioner D.S. Chauhan said that anybody found eve-teasing will be counselled once and given an opportunity to reform. He warned that serious action will be initiated against anyone found eve-teasing again and cases will be registered against them. He emphasised that men have to respect the rights of women and understand that “NO means NO.”
Later speaking to the media, he said that in the last two months, the SHE teams of the Rachakonda women safety wing conducted decoy operations and nabbed 254 eve-teasers (151 minors and 96 adults). He also said 33 IPC cases and 41 petty cases were registered and 44 respondents counselled.
On 9 February, 84 respondents were counselled at the commissioner’s camp office in LB Nagar by professional counselors from Bhumika Women’s Collective (NGO), he added.
The Rachakonda commissioner of police appreciated the good work done by the Rachakonda SHE teams. He exhorted girls and women facing eve-teasing and sexual harassment to approach the Rachakonda police, without any fear, either in person or through phone/WhatsApp/social media/email.
