Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has launched an online platform for property mutation applications, enabling property owners to apply directly through the official GHMC website.
Officials announced that the new digital facility has been made operational from Tuesday, eliminating the need to visit MeeSeva or citizen service centres.
Move to eliminate Middlemen and Bribery
Until now, property mutation applications were accepted only at MeeSeva centres, Citizen Service Centres, or through GHMC officials. This system often led to broker interference and bribery, with several complaints from citizens about delays and irregularities.
To address these issues, GHMC has now made the process completely online, allowing applicants to submit details and documents digitally without third-party involvement.
Facility for Pre-2020 Registrations
Officials clarified that the online application facility primarily benefits property owners who had completed land or house registrations before 2020.
During the previous government’s tenure, the state introduced an integrated system linking registration and property mutation, ensuring automatic name transfer in tax records during registration.
However, thousands of owners whose registrations were done before 2020 still lacked updated ownership entries in the property tax database. The new digital system now allows these individuals to apply directly on the GHMC portal for mutation without visiting any office.
All Property Tax Services Now Digital
GHMC has extended the digital initiative beyond mutation to include several other key property tax and trade services. Citizens can now:
Submit self-assessment applications for newly constructed buildings.
Apply for property tax corrections or revisions.
Seek tax exemption under categories such as ex-servicemen.
Update contact numbers and correct clerical errors in records.
Apply for cancellation of trade licences related to closed or inactive businesses.
File vacant land tax (VLT) mutation applications online.
Request cancellation of duplicate Property Tax Identification Numbers (PTINs) issued for the same property or plot.
Boost to Transparency and Ease of Governance
Officials said the move aims to promote efficiency, transparency, and accountability in civic administration. By allowing property owners to handle their applications directly online, GHMC expects to reduce human interference, cut down processing time, and make service delivery faster and more reliable.
The initiative is part of the corporation’s broader digital transformation programme, aimed at bringing all property-related services under a single online platform for the convenience of citizens.
