The cases were filed during a special drive conducted by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K Narayan Naik from May 07-14.
Vehicle owners fitting unauthorized sirens with the intention of alerting fellow motorists and clearing traffic are causing considerable annoyance to commuters. Such actions constitute a severe violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. The use of black films is leading to criminal activities.
As per the Supreme Court of India and Central Motor Vehicle Rule 100, vehicle owners should ensure the visual transmission of light for the windscreen and the rear window. Black films are completely prohibited by the Road Transport Authority (RTA).
The police are imposing a fine of Rs 1,000 for the violation and peeling off the film from the glasses.
According to Narayan Naik, "Tinted glasses usually block the side and rear views, which can lead to accidents. Some car owners are also using sunshades and curtains, and some high-end cars have the facility to draw up black screens. There is a lack of awareness among the people against the tinted windows. The car decors and accessory shop owners are illegally fixing black films by telling the car owners that it was 'RTA approved'."
In the drive conducted under the guidance of Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, Stephen Raveendra, and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K Narayan Naik, officers were instructed to detain any vehicle employing unauthorized sirens.
"The use of sirens for purposes other than those permitted by law is strictly illegal, and the police will take stern action against offenders," said the Officer.
