Hot and humid conditions prevail in Hyderabad as rains continue to elude the metropolis.

For the last three days, neighbouring areas have received enough rainfall. However, Hyderabad has remained hot with little sign of relief in sight.

With the temperature reaching 31.8 degree Celsius and the humidity touching 86 percent, Hyderabad residents were anxiously awaiting much-anticipated monsoon showers.

Unfortunately, the city's expectations were shattered when the first few days of July saw scant precipitation.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad had only 1 mm of rain in the last week, well short of the projected 6.8 mm. The rainfall shortfall is a whopping 85 percent.

According to weatherman Balaji Tarini, North, Central, and parts of East Telangana were blessed with much-needed rain. "Central Telangana received abundant rains," he stated.

When it came to Hyderabad, though, the situation was entirely different.

Because of a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) that emerged, the city only had a brief brush with the monsoon. Unfortunately, the rain showers were restricted to one day, with strong rainfall in certain regions on the night of July 4.

"Rainfall in Hyderabad was less than expected due to two major factors: El Nino and Cyclone Biparjoy. El Nino, a meteorological phenomenon typified by the warming of Pacific Ocean waters, frequently interrupts normal monsoon patterns, resulting in less rainfall. Furthermore, the effect of Cyclone Biparjoy helped to reduce the intensity of rainfall in the city," Balaji stated.

According to the Telangana State Development Society's forecast, Hyderabad may have mild rain in the following week. Weather experts anticipate a dry spell that might last for a few days.

Humidity Causing Mosquito Menace

Climate change is claimed to influence the mosquito's life cycle; changes in temperature and humidity lead mosquitoes to spawn in enormous numbers.

Dr. Sudarshan Reddy L, a senior consulting physician, suggests that stagnant water be avoided and that pesticides and larvicides be used on stagnant water. "Mosquito nets, repellent creams, and certified repellents must be used to help keep mosquitoes at bay. The best way to avoid mosquito bites during this season is to completely cover your hands and legs," he advises.

Many people took to Twitter to complain about the breeding of mosquitoes in and around the Musi River.

“It is very unhealthy to have so many mosquitoes around. Dengue still is a threat and something needs to be done about it” said a resident of Tolichowki.
