Tank Bund, one of the favorite places for many in Hyderabad, has become a spot for their birthday to celebrate their birthday at 12. Also, the road leading up to Khajaguda Hills, the link road between HKC and Raidurg, and Nallagandla Flyover are some of the spots where birthday celebrations are being held at night.
Citizens threw leftover cakes, eatables, and candles on the footpath, and sitting arena.
GHMC took the decision after considering the complaints from residents over cleanliness issues and established the signboards announcing the ban.
GHMC has placed around eight boards detailing the instructions, each around a hundred meters apart on the PVNR Marg, and kept the areas under CCTV surveillance. It also said that whosoever failed to adhere to the rules would be slapped with penalty.
āCake cutting prohibited on Tank Bund. Do not litter here. Penalties will be imposed. You are under surveillance of CCTV cameras,ā warn these sign boards attached to the lakeās railing," read the boards.
When NewsMeter went around the Tank Bund area on Wednesday evening, at least 5-6 families were celebrating their birthday with cake cutting on the benches. There were at least four cars where the families put cakes and were waiting for more to join in.
Meanwhile, the decision to prohibit cake cuttings got mixed reactions from the public. While some of them took a positive way, many youth reacted sharply on social media platforms. Many users of X started the hashtag #NoCakeCuttingOnTankBund.
Some of them questioned why such a decision was taken instead of deploying a GHMC staff to monitor the situation.
