OG movie release: Telangana HC suspends govt’s order allowing hike in ticket prices

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday suspended the State government’s order permitting a hike in ticket prices for OG, the upcoming gangster-action drama starring actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan and directed by Sujeeth.

The film is slated for release on September 25, with pre-release premieres starting Wednesday night.

Government approves ticket hike ahead of premiere

Ahead of the release, the film’s production house requested permission to increase ticket prices.

The Home Department issued an order allowing the hike. Under the order, premiere tickets (September 24, 10 pm onwards) were priced at Rs 800 (GST included).

For the regular release (September 25 to October 4), single-screen theatres could charge an additional Rs 100 and multiplexes an additional Rs 150 on top of standard rates.

Petition challenges the legality of the order

Advocate Vijay Gopal represented petitioner B Mahesh Yadav and successfully secured the court’s order. The writ petition is numbered 29214 of 2025, with orders passed by Justice NV Shravan Kumar.

Mahesh Yadav filed a petition in the High Court challenging the Home Department’s order.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that the Special Chief Secretary and Home Department had no authority to approve higher ticket prices.

He noted that only the Hyderabad Police Commissioner and Joint Collectors in district jurisdictions can issue such orders. Existing regulations prohibit selling tickets at inflated prices, and the petitioner also referred to the Home Department’s undertaking given during the release of Game Changer.

High Court suspends memo, next hearing on October 9

Justice NV Shravan Kumar, considering the arguments, suspended the memo that allowed the price hike. The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 9.

Approved Ticket Pricing in Telangana (Pre-Release & Release) is as follows:

- Premiere shows (September 24, 10 pm onwards): Rs 800 (GST included).

- Regular release (September 25 to October 4): Single screens – Rs 100 extra, Multiplexes – Rs 150 extra (GST included).
