Hyderabad: Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi, Hyderabad metro rail managing director NVS Reddy hands over the cheque to the property owners which have been taken over by the Telangana govt for Old City metro rail 

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government has distributed Rs 20 crore worth of compensation cheques to 41 owners of 31 properties affected by the Phase-II metro rail works in the Old City. The move cleared the way for the projectā€™s commencement on the MGBS-Chandrayangutta route.

Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) managing director NVS Reddy on Monday said that as per the instructions of chief minister A Revanth Reddy, compensation is being paid appropriately to those who have given up their properties for the construction of metro rail in the Old City. The construction of the second phase would be undertaken with more facilities than the first phase, in which the outline of the Old City would be restored, he added.

Skywalks from metro stations to Charminar, Salar Jung Museum

Following the suggestions from Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, advanced facilities like skywalks, footpaths etc. would be provided from metro stations to tourist places like Charminar, Lad Bazaar, Salar Jung Museum etc, the HAML MD said.

ā€œIt is the wish of the chief minister that the Old City should be further developed, and accordingly, the metro is being made available to its residents. We are prepared to fulfil the CM's intention to complete the seven-and-a-half-km Old City Metro in four years with an estimated cost of Rs 2,741 crore,ā€ Reddy said.

Multi-level parking project in Nampally

He also said that arrangements are also being made to start the advanced multi-level parking project with German Puzzle Technology in Nampally next month, which will also be the gateway to the development of Old City.

Speaking on the occasion, Asaduddin Owaisi said the Metro Rail, which the residents of Old City have been waiting for a long time, is now being implemented and he is grateful to the chief minister for it. He said they will extend full cooperation with the efforts being made by Metro MD NVS Reddy. He stated that if skywalks are constructed at the proposed Salar Jung and Charminar metro stations to the monuments, it will be convenient for tourists and locals.

Businesses at metro stations

MP Owaisi also appealed to the Metro MD to give priority to those who lost land to set up businesses at the upcoming metro stations. District Collector Durisetti Anudeep said that a beneficial compensation has been decided for the displaced people who came forward for the Metro Rail project. A compensation of about Rs 1,000 crore will be paid for a total of 1,100 properties, and the locals are fully cooperating with them, the district collector said.

Deputy Collector of the Metro Rail Land Acquisition Department K Swarnalatha also participated in the program.
