Old City's Bum-Rukn-ud-Daula lake makeover complete, set to open after festive season
Hyderabad: HYDRAA has revived the historic Bum-Rukn-ud-Daula Lake in Hyderabad’s old city and transformed it into a visually appealing and citizen-friendly urban space.
The work on the project is nearing completion.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the final phase of works during a night visit on Tuesday and issued directions to make the lake ready for public opening soon after the festive season.
Walk-through inspection along the bund
The Commissioner walked nearly two kilometres along the lake bund, closely reviewing the infrastructure created as part of the rejuvenation project. He interacted with local residents and instructed officials to incorporate their suggestions to further improve amenities around the lake.
Focus on Safety, Lighting, and Surveillance
Special emphasis was laid on safety measures. The Commissioner reviewed lighting arrangements around the lake and directed officials to install clearly visible CCTV cameras to ensure round-the-clock surveillance and public safety.
Facilities for Women, Children, and Elderly
Noting the increasing number of women visitors, he instructed officials to provide women-friendly exercise equipment. He also stressed that the lake surroundings should offer a safe, pleasant, and inclusive environment for children, senior citizens, and families.
Highlighting Heritage and Ecology
The Commissioner directed that a stone plaque be developed at the entrance, detailing the historical significance of the lake, which flourished during the Nizam era and is known for its medicinal-quality water. He also suggested planting medicinal plants around the lake to enhance its ecological and educational value.
Opening after festival season
Officials were instructed to complete the remaining works at the earliest and ensure that the rejuvenated lake is fully prepared for inauguration and public access soon after the festival season.
The revitalised Bum-Rukn-ud-Daula Lake is expected to emerge as a major recreational and heritage landmark in the Old City, offering residents a safe, green, and refreshing public space.
