One Card for All Travel Needs: Use Telangana’s Common Mobility Card for RTC, Metro and MMTS travel

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is taking a significant step towards enhancing public transportation in Hyderabad by announcing the introduction of a Common Mobility Card. The card will be issued from the second week of August.

This card will enable citizens to access multiple public transport services seamlessly, making commuting more convenient and efficient. Using the Common Mobility Card, commuters will have access to various facilities in the public transport system, including RTC buses, metro rail, MMTS, cabs, and autos. The card will be issued initially in Hyderabad and later expanded across Telangana to serve a broader populace.

Citizens asked to name card

In an effort to involve the citizens in this initiative, the Telangana government has sought their participation in suggesting a name for the Common Mobility Card. Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Arvind Kumar, reached out to the public through a tweet, inviting them to propose creative names for the card.

The authorities have been directed to make necessary arrangements for the card’s launch. Upon its launch, the Common Mobility Card will be usable on Metro Rail and RTC buses, which form the primary modes of public transportation within Hyderabad.

During a meeting at the State Secretariat, ministers K Taraka Rama Rao, Puvvada Ajay, and Srinivas Goud discussed the details of the Common Mobility Card. Top officials from the Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana RTC organisations were also present and they provided comprehensive insights into the card’s functionality and implementation.

Common Mobility Card can be used in other states

The ministers, during the meeting, emphasised the importance of a ‘One Card for All Travel Needs’ model. The objective is to enable citizens to use the Common Mobility Card not only for travel but also for various other transactions, akin to existing cards, thus streamlining travel payment processes.

The state government views this card as a transformative tool to enhance the overall public transport experience. Initially, it will facilitate travel via Metro Rail and RTC buses, with plans to extend its usability to MMTS, cab services, and autos in the near future.

One of the key highlights of the Common Mobility Card is its nationwide applicability. Citizens possessing this card will be able to utilise it in other metro cities as well, including RTC buses and metro rail services in which the National Common Mobility card system is accepted.
