Hyderabad: A slab collapsed during renovation work at the emergency ward at ESI Hospital in Sanathnagar, leading to one death and injuries to four construction workers.
The incident occurred when a centring structure—the temporary support framework for construction—collapsed. Initial reports suggest a large portion of a concrete slab fell onto the iron frames set up for the repair work, causing the entire structure to give way and crush the workers beneath.
Casualties and injuries
One person was killed in the accident, confirmed the dean of ESIC hospital Dr Shirish Kumar Chawan. The four injured individuals, identified as daily wage workers Bhanu Chander, Mohan, Raghupathi, Masaiah and Malleshi, were immediately rushed for treatment. Officials confirmed that Bhanu Chander, Mohan and Raghupathi sustained critical injuries.
Minister directs action
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident. The minister directed the officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment. Hyderabad district medical and health officer Dr Venkati reviewed the situation and coordinated the relief works.
The minister has asked for an investigation into the collapse.
