Operation ROPE began on 3 October with the aim to remove roadside encroachments.
Twenty-five Hyderabad traffic police units conducted drives across the city and over 472 motorists and 18 establishment owners were penalised for traffic violations.
Hyderabad police commissioner C.V Anand made a surprise visit to Road no. 45 junctions in Jubilee Hills to supervise the operation and other engineering measures initiated by the traffic police.
During his visit, he checked the readiness of field staff and discussed the engineering changes required. The traffic officials briefed him about the inflow, volumes, and load on the local roads.
Mr. Anand said with the steep rise in population and personal vehicles, there is a serious situation of traffic jams at all junctions. "Let us understand the seriousness of the situation and voluntarily cooperate with the city traffic police for free flow of traffic to reduce congestion on roads," he said.
The commissioner said more special drives will be initiated to keep a check on traffic violations, including triple riding, using cell phone while driving, wrong-side driving, etc.
He also urged public representatives to cooperate with the traffic police during enforcement and VIP movements. The general public was advised to use public transport systems in lieu of personal vehicles, a collective action that would reduce congestion on roads.
The commissioner reiterated that commuters must stop at the STOP line when they see the signal turn from green to orange.
