Operation Smile: Hyderabad police rescued 388 children in January 2021

Between 1 and 31 January 2021, the Hyderabad police have rescued 388 children - 344 boys and 44 girls – under Operation Smile VII.

Hyderabad: Between 1 and 31 January 2021, the Hyderabad police have rescued 388 children - 344 boys and 44 girls – under Operation Smile VII.

Last year, as part of Operation Smile VI, 387 children were rescued, out of them 367 were boys and 20 were girls, between 1 and 31 January 2020.

The seventh phase of Operation Smile is being conducted in Hyderabad with 17 teams, one each for each division consisting of one SI and four PCs, including one Woman PC. They are assisted by the ACP, Anti-Human Trafficking team, and CCRB for rescuing child labour.

Among those rescued this month include 55 children - 28 boys and 27 girls – who were found begging on the streets. Out of them, 13 boys and 12 girls were sent to a rescue home and others were handed over to the parents after counselling.

Also, 61 FIRs have been registered so far.

Officers who rescued the missing children

Kachiguda sub-inspector S. Varsha traced a boy who had gone missing from his home on 6 November 2020 due to harassment by his stepmother. She also rescued 15 boys and a girl. Ten boys were sent to a home and others were handed over to their parents after counselling. She also registered seven FIRs.

Meanwhile, Begumpet SI M.P Tharuni rescued three boys who had escaped from TARA Shelter Home and handed them back. She also rescued 25 boys and two girls. Of these, 14 were sent to a home and 13 were handed over to parents after counselling. She also registered eight FIRs.

Mohd. Amjad Khan, an SI from Moghalpura, rescued 15 boys and four girls. Nine of the rescued children were sent to a home and others were handed over to the parents after counselling. He registered six FIRs.

Kanchanbagh sub-inspector M. Anil Kumar rescued 30 boys and three girls while the Malakpet SI, Sravanthi, rescued 28 boys and one girl, and Langer House SI, M.A Aleem, rescued 24 boys and a girl.

Anjani Kumar, the Hyderabad commissioner of police, honored the officers who helped trace the children and rescued them.
