Hyderabad: Local Military Authority (LMA) has decided to shut down roads in the Secunderabad area as a security measure on the occasion of Independence Day.
Hyderabad Defence Wing on Wednesday issued an 'Orange Alert' and decided to close the roads in the Secunderabad area for two days due to security reasons.
"The highest level of vigilance and alert is being maintained by security forces for any suspicious activity with adequate traffic and movement control measures in Secunderabad Military Station. All preparations for the safe conduct of Independence Day celebrations are being undertaken. In addition, the roads on defence land in Secunderabad Military Station will be closed temporarily due to a high-security alert on the occasion of Independence Day with effect from 9 pm on August 13 pm) to 6 am on August 16," the defence wing said in a statement.
Cantonment roads have been closed several times in the past and the residents had a harrowing time commuting.
Telangana minister of municipal administration and urban development KT Rama Rao had written to defence minister Rajnath Singh urging him to instruct LMA Hyderabad, to immediately open roads in Secunderabad Cantonment Area and restrain from taking any unilateral and arbitrary decision.
