Osmania, Gandhi medical colleges to build new hostels; Rs 204 crores allotted

Hyderabad: Students of Osmania Medical College (OMC) and Gandhi Medical College (GMC) will soon benefit from improved accommodation facilities to be built at the cost of more than Rs 204 crores at the major medical institutions. The State government has issued administrative sanctions for the construction of new hostels on their respective campuses.

Osmania Medical College

According to an order from the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare department, Rs 80 crores has been allocated for the construction of a women’s hostel and Rs 35 crores for a men’s hostel at OMC, Koti. Additionally, a new dental hospital will be established at OMC with an approved budget of Rs 6 crores. The men’s hostel will undergo repairs and renovations, and cement concrete (CC) roads will be laid on the campus.

Gandhi Medical College

Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad will also see significant improvements. A women’s hostel and a men’s hostel will be constructed at estimated costs of Rs 42 crores and Rs 23 crores respectively. Furthermore, a senior residents’ block hostel will be constructed with a sanctioned amount of Rs 14.50 crores.

Kakatiya Medical College in Hanumakonda will receive funds for infrastructure improvements as well, with Rs 2.75 crores approved for laying cement concrete roads on its campus.

Rs 204.86 crores allotted for medical infra development

In total, the government has approved Rs 204.86 crores for these civil works across the three medical colleges. The Director of Medical Education has been instructed to take the necessary steps to commence these projects.

Dr Suresh Kumar, a senior official from the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare department, stated, “These infrastructural developments are part of our commitment to improving the living and learning conditions for medical students in the state.”
