Hyderabad: Osmania University (OU) has been conferred with the Green Miles Champion Award by the Hyderabad Metro Rail for encouraging its stakeholders to take the metro to commute.
The award was handed over by Murali Varadarajan, chief strategy officer of L&T Metro Rail, and was received by Prof. C. Srinivasulu, director of OU's Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies, on behalf of the university stakeholders.
The award ceremony was held on Friday at T-Hive in Hitech City. It was attended by dignitaries, including K.V.B Reddy, the managing director and CEO of L&T (Hyderabad Metro Rail); C. Shekar Reddy, chairman of CII-The Indian Green Building Council, and students of the university.
"This is another achievement that reiterates the university's policies towards encouraging green initiatives. We have been striving to restore green cover in the university and encouraging all stakeholders to become more carbon neutral," said Prof. D Ravinder, the Vice-Chancellor of the university. He urged more students and staff to take the metro for their daily commute as it is the most environment-friendly transportation facility available in Hyderabad.
