NewsMeter has always been at the forefront of highlighting people's problems, celebrating the common person's success, and encouraging people to live their dreams. We are trying to become a bridge between the government and the people. To take this initiative forward, we are introducing a citizen journalism concept. This story is part of the initiative.

Hyderabad: Forty days ago, Tar road at Shilpa Park, Kothaguda was dug up when there was no need.

This 1.5 Km stretch is a lifeline for the residents since it connects all the lanes and apartments around. Nearly 4,000 families live in this area. The area is inhabited mostly by young IT professionals and office-goers. There are many schools around.

Authorities have been repeatedly postponing the work causing huge inconvenience to the residents. Even after the rains have stopped, the authorities are not resuming work.

The road has become a death trap. There have been many accidents and mostly the delivery boys have fallen prey to the negligence of the authorities.

People dread the day there is an emergency. If there is any medical emergency, walking on gravel and rainwater puddles to reach the hospital is fraught with danger.

So many vehicles have broken down because of the road. It has put an additional burden on residents as they have to frequently service their vehicles.

Shilpa Park residents ask why a cement road was sanctioned in such an area when a Tar/Dambar road had already been laid.

Even Maharishi Vidya Mandir School which falls in this area has been having a problem as they had to divert their students and use different entry gate. Commuters heading to Kondapur from Kukatpally Phase 4 are stuck in traffic jams for hours.

It seems that it will take another month or two to finish the work. But the question remains why are roads dug up in the rainy season? Why can’t GHMC follow basic weather updates and take up work accordingly? Why do leaders remember everything before the elections? Don’t citizens deserve a better and planned approach?
