Hyderabad: An alleged error in medical protocol at a rehabilitation centre is said to have resulted in the untimely demise of a patient. On October 7, Kanuganti Sukesh (32) reportedly died at the Wellknox Rehabilitation Centre in Hyderabad after he was given the wrong food during his treatment.
According to sources, Kanuganti Sukesh, a panchayat secretary, native to Ippalapally village in Narmeta mandal, Janagam district was admitted to the Wellknox Rehabilitation Centre following a road accident on September 23. Sukesh had sustained severe injuries in the accident. After receiving treatment at the Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad, he was transferred to the rehabilitation centre on September 6.
Sources said that the staff at the rehabilitation centre allegedly gave Sukesh medication and ‘Raagi Jawa’ (a type of food) through the tubes without proper doctor supervision. This reportedly resulted in Sukesh’s death as the jawa was not a part of his prescribed diet and was intended for another individual under the centre’s care.
The family of the victim, led by Kanuganti Suresh, the deceased’s brother, blamed the centre and its negligence for Sukesh’s death and demanded justice from the authorities.
Taking cognizance of the family’s complaint, the Banjara Hills Police registered a case under Section 304A of IPC, which pertains to causing death by negligence. The investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.
